You know dot phrases in EPIC, right?
Well, the solution to forgetting your dot phrases is easy to remember. Just type (dot) (question mark) or “.?”, as in, I forgot my damn dot phrase and I’m trying to get through clinic, ok?
What happens next is pure magic. The SmartPhrase Butler appears.
Let’s take a closer look at the butler. Notice the checkmark toggles to look only at your SmartPhrases, those from the system, or SmartLinks (we’ll tackle those in a future post for sure), or some combination.
As a refresher, SmartLinks are things that “pull” information out from somewhere else in the record, right into your note. For instance, LASTLAB24 pulls the last set of certain labs from the last 24h.
Just browsing SmartLinks (in all your nonexistent free time) can give you great ideas worth incorporating into your workflow.
There’s even a preview function.
Select a SmartPhrase or Smartlink in the list, hit Preview, and see what the text will look like for this patient, in a cute little floating window. For those of you with a fear of commitment, you’ll love preview.
